The product is simple in concept: institutions holding idle Bitcoin, Ether, or stablecoins in Kraken’s compliant custody can now deploy those assets into non-custodial vaults, earning yield from selected DeFi protocols while retaining control over risk parameters. The twist? Each vault is tailored—customizable by asset mix, protocol choice, and risk tolerance. No pooled pools. No one-size-fits-all.
Follow the money, not the noise. The money here is the billions in ‘dry powder’ sitting in custody accounts, earning zero for clients who pay fees for security. Kraken’s move is a direct response to the opportunity cost of holding assets under traditional custody. Competitors like Coinbase Custody and Fireblocks already offer yield, but their solutions are largely pooled vaults where clients have little say.
